Playmaker, a digital sports media company that lives at the intersection of sports, betting, media, and technology, is proud to announce that it has completed its first acquisition, Futbol Sites. Futbol Sites is a top digital sports media group in the United States and Latin America, with one of the largest audiences in its category, reaching more than 50 million unique users every month through a portfolio of more than 10 premium sites and more than 300 million users through a variety of social media channels. Futbol Sites serves up over one billion ad impressions monthly on its owned and operated sites. Futbol Sites is currently licensed in 7 states in the US for sports betting media and has a content team dedicated to curating sports betting specific content on a daily basis.
Founded in 2008 by entrepreneurs Federico Grinberg and Nahuel Pan, Futbol Sites helps global brands and football federations manage their digital assets, while designing and executing powerful fan-oriented strategies. With its headquarters in Miami, Futbol Sites’ team of 150+ focuses on building communities of fans in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Central America. Futbol Sites aims to bridge the gap between brands and fans by using data, technology, and a deep knowledge and passion of the sports industry.
“We are so excited to have Futbol Sites as our first investment and for the entire team to join our family. This is a company that has been growing on all metrics year after year,” said CEO of Playmaker, Jordan Gnat. “This acquisition gives Playmaker scale of people, scale of audience, scale of advertisers, scale of betting partners and provides an infrastructure that we can continue to build on as we make further acquisitions — it’s truly amazing.”
“I have known Jordan for over two years and the opportunity to be part of Playmaker and its vision was something that my partners and I could not pass up,” said CEO of Futbol Sites, Federico Grinberg. “We are now going to grow this business together to the next level. I know that the whole Futbol Sites family is very excited.”
Playmaker is continuing to strengthen its senior leadership team. In addition to his duties as the CEO of Futbol Sites, Federico will be joining the leadership team of Playmaker, bringing with him his more than 20 years of digital sports media knowledge. Nahuel Pan and Javier Troncoso will continue in their key leadership roles within the Futbol Sites team.
Earlier this month, Playmaker hired Mike Cooke as its Chief Financial Officer. Mike brings over a decade of experience leading the finance teams at multiple successful technology companies. He was most recently Chief Financial Officer of Ritual, and obtained his CPA, CA designation with KPMG LLP.
Earlier this month, Playmaker announced that it has entered into an agreement to go public via a Qualifying Transaction with Apolo III Acquisition Corp. Playmaker will continue to pursue acquisitions of media and product companies that similarly cultivate highly engaged fan communities.
More updates to come in the weeks and months ahead.
